the Facts
My name is Jacob T Downes. I am an artist. I do not have a college degree or any significant certification. What I do have is the experience of growing up queer in a religiously abusive home.
I am a Capricorn and Snake in a committed relationship with a Pisces and Tiger. I have a taste for the dark, yet have a sense of regret even if I kill a spider (which terrify me). I take the Rede "if it harm none, do as thou wilt" to heart. My spiritual interests are eclectic and I even try to be open to the same beliefs I was abused with. It can be difficult to manage.
I like to use powdered medium in my art, especially charcoal and pastels. I like the way they blend and flow. These medium take a lot of time for me to layer and blend together, but it's forgiving and gives me a lot of control over the end result.
I am fascinated by detail in the artwork of others. I could spend hours in a gallery studying somebody's work. I love the evidence of human contact with art, especially brushstrokes and paper texture. I hope my art leaves a little of that behind, though some pieces are intended to be more illustrative.
I love laughing. My writing can be pretty serious, but about 50% of what comes out of my mouth is intended to make somebody laugh. I like doing impressions and making faces. I am very punny, and love Laffy Taffy jokes. You can find subtlety in my writing and art if you know where to look.
